Health Access Initiative

LGBTQ+ communities in Michigan face tremendous challenges including discrimination, housing instability, and limited access to culturally responsive care.
The Health Access Initiative (HAI) is a free health care quality improvement program focused on increasing the quality of and access to services and programs for LGBTQ+ youth. The HAI includes cultural responsiveness training for medical, clerical, programmatic, and administrative staff, as well as technical assistance to improve policies and protocols related to LGBTQ+ youth’s health care needs.
The goals of the HAI are to:
-
increase access to culturally responsive care for LGBTQ+ youth,
-
increase testing and prevention services for LGBTQ+ youth vulnerable to STIs and HIV, and
-
decrease the prevalence of STIs and HIV among LGBTQ+ youth.
